One Great Reason to Have a Web Site

I was having a string of bad days recently. The old story: Too much work, not enough time to get it all done, beating myself up for not being productive enough. Wondering if it was time to just hang it up and find a grown up job. I am working so hard to write these articles and essays, snapping at my kids (and husband), feeling guilty...and for what?

Then my web site went up and the emails from readers started trickling in, many in response to essays I'd written. Smart, thoughtful, literate mail, which often made me think. Do not feel comfortable reprinting the correspondence, but one mom followed up her email to me with a lovely posting on her own blog. Thanks Tracey--you made my day.

My pleasure Pamela. Glad I encouraged you to keep up the great work. You're such a great writer!
And for the record,I know how you feel. It can be so overwhelming trying to do it all. Sigh. I beleive it's an epidemic in Motherhood. The burning question then would be how to stop the madness. Any ideas?

I have one idea: Husbands.
We--and I definitely put myself in that category--have to stop thinking that motherhood means taking on every single child-related and house-related task.
I definitely ask--and sometimes assign--my husband tasks. For example, he now makes the kids' lunches for school. It's not a huge chore, but it's one of those annoying ones (to me, at least, since my kids are bone thin and picky eaters). I also think that many men are cut out of the picture by their wives, who demand on taking the lions share of the work. It makes them feel like mothers to be the one who always wipes their noses and knows when the next dental appointment is, but you know what--if you also resent it, it's not good for the marriage, the kids, or anyone.
